The Storj Labs Blog

We recently sat down with James Wo, Founder and Chairman at Ethereum Classic Labs, to discuss how ETC Labs is building technology to create communities of value. James discusses compliance and regulation, regional differences in decentralization, proof-of-work vs. proof-of-stake, and many other interesting topics about the blockchain industry. Watch the Tardigrade Thursday video below to learn more about ETC Labs.

Many companies have been making statements lately about Black Lives Matter—using this opportunity to take a firm stance on the systemic issues around policing, economics, health, and racism that disproportionately harm Black Americans. While Fortune 500 companies and many large tech companies have been part of this discussion, there has been distressingly little meaningful contribution by startups to the conversation, and even less from the decentralization community. To some extent, this is understandable.

Tardigrade is accessible for developers of all levels, and you can get the hang of it in an afternoon. If you’re accustomed to working in the command line it will be even faster. You should start with the tutorial “How to Upload your First Object with Tardigrade” (see the embedded video at the bottom of this post). Once you have some data in the cloud, check out our bindings and connectors in the language of your choice, to interact with the data you’re storing.

Because of the COVID-19 crisis, we’ve taken a different approach for our Town Hall and Q&A. If you missed our Town Hall, you can watch it on our YouTube channel. Below are questions from our community members, and answers from the Storj Labs leadership team. Thanks to all those who submitted questions. 1. Is it possible to have more Nodes (different storage, different IP address) registered under one email address?

Connectors bridge the chasm between the applications we use every day and the underlying storage infrastructure on which application data is stored. Our team has worked with our partners to build a series of connectors between Tardigrade, our decentralized cloud storage service, and our partners’ applications. What is a Tardigrade Connector? A Tardigrade connector is an application-level integration that enables the use of decentralized cloud storage in consumer software. Tardigrade connectors enable Satellites to measure the volume of data associated with a bucket and give attribution to them.

We’re still somewhere in the middle of the blockchain movement and enterprises continue to adopt blockchain technology at an unprecedented speed. But while AWS, Azure and Google may rule the cloud presently, the benefits of decentralized technology may threaten their dominion. Decentralization is not just disrupting traditional cloud storage providers. There are so many possibilities that blockchain technology can enable and some of the greatest are likely impossible to predict, but we’re still going to try anyhow.
